Where it came from
Ajani's Chosen was first introduced in the 2013 Magic: The Gathering set Magic 2014, designed to reinforce the enchantment-based gameplay themes prevalent in the Theros block. The card features the artwork of Volkan Baga, who utilized a lush, painterly style to depict the Leonin planeswalker's connection to magical wards. The card’s design centers on a triggered ability that creates a Cat token whenever an enchantment enters the battlefield, making it a staple for players building 'enchantress' style decks.
The Jumpstart version, numbered 82, was released in 2020 as part of a unique product designed to facilitate quick, randomized gameplay. By including this card in the 'Enchanted' theme pack, Wizards of the Coast allowed players to experience the synergy of Ajani's Chosen in a streamlined environment. The inclusion helped bridge the gap between older card mechanics and the accessibility of the Jumpstart format, ensuring the card remained relevant to a new generation of players.
