Where it came from
Alms Collector, originally printed in the Commander 2017 set, was reimagined for the Secret Lair Drop series as a showcase of distinct artistic direction. The card functions as a strategic deterrent in Magic: The Gathering, specifically punishing opponents who attempt to draw multiple cards in a single turn. By forcing players to draw only one card when they would draw more, it serves as a powerful utility piece in multiplayer formats.
The Secret Lair version features stylized, thematic artwork that departs from the traditional aesthetic of the game to provide collectors with a more atmospheric interpretation of the character. This particular printing reflects the initiative by Wizards of the Coast to offer curated, limited-availability releases that highlight the work of various illustrators, moving away from standard set continuity to prioritize visual storytelling and artistic experimentation.
