Where it came from
The Avabruck Caretaker // Hollowhenge Huntmaster card was released as part of the Secret Lair x Arcane: Lands drop in late 2021, coinciding with the promotional tie-in between Wizards of the Coast and the popular animated series Arcane. This double-faced card belongs to the werewolf creature type, originally debuting in the Innistrad: Crimson Vow set to represent the duality of the protector and the predator, a core thematic element of the plane's folklore.
The artwork for this specific Secret Lair iteration was created to capture the atmospheric, painterly aesthetic associated with the collaboration, diverging from the standard set art to offer a unique visual narrative. Designers aimed to emphasize the transformation mechanic inherent to werewolf cards, ensuring that both the human caretaker and the monstrous huntmaster sides maintained a cohesive stylistic link to the broader Innistrad aesthetic while honoring the gritty tone of the Arcane franchise.
