Where it came from
Approach of the Second Sun was originally released in the 2017 Amonkhet expansion, serving as a powerful late-game win condition centered on the thematic cycle of Bolas’s return. This specific iteration is part of the Secret Lair series, a line of premium, curated reprints that feature exclusive, artist-driven aesthetics designed to appeal to both collectors and players looking for unique visual flair in their decks.
The artwork for this Secret Lair version was created by the artist Lius Lasahido. The design leans into the high-fantasy, divine iconography of the Amonkhet plane, employing a vibrant and stylized color palette that differentiates it from the original printing. Upon release, the card was well-received by the Magic: The Gathering community for its elevated art direction, which emphasizes the sense of impending cataclysm that the spell represents within the game's lore.
