Provenance

Where it came from

Aven Courier was released in 2022 as part of the Streets of New Capenna Commander set, a collection themed around the art deco aesthetics and organized crime tropes of the 1920s. Designed to function within the high-synergy environment of the commander format, the card represents the aerial messengers of the plane's avian citizenry, fitting into the set's narrative of information brokerage and illicit trade.

The artwork was illustrated by Lucas Staniec, who emphasized the character's swift, urban appearance, mirroring the bustling, noir-inspired atmosphere of the city of New Capenna. The card's mechanics, which allow for the retrieval of cards from exile, reflect the theme of hidden resources, a central gameplay element introduced to support the set's unique strategic identity.
