Where it came from
Aven Courier was released as part of the New Capenna Commander set in 2022, designed to integrate with the expansion's art deco, mob-inspired aesthetic of the plane of New Capenna. The card features a bird-folk messenger stylized to reflect the era's focus on clandestine communication and urban intrigue, serving as a tactical utility piece within the game's mechanics.
The illustration was crafted to evoke the quintessential noir-fantasy atmosphere of the set, utilizing the dramatic lighting and sleek geometry characteristic of 1920s-inspired urban design. As a commander-specific promotional card, it was distributed to support the multiplayer format, receiving recognition from players for its efficiency in card selection and its thematic contribution to the visual identity of the New Capenna block.
