Where it came from
Ayula's Influence was released in 2019 as part of the Modern Horizons set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Unlike standard sets, Modern Horizons was designed specifically to introduce new cards directly into the Modern format without passing through Standard legality. The set is noted for its focus on niche tribal synergies and deep-cut references to Magic's long history, with this specific card designed to support a Bear-themed deck strategy.
The card features artwork by illustrator Jesper Ejsing, known for his dynamic and illustrative fantasy style. The design intent behind Ayula's Influence was to provide players with a repeatable effect that rewards the inclusion of Bear-creature cards, turning discarded lands into creature tokens. Upon release, it was received as a flavorful, build-around enchantment that added a unique and humorous layer to the game's tribal mechanics.
