Provenance

Where it came from

The Bear token, designated as collector number 8 in the Khans of Tarkir set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in September 2014. As part of the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, this token was designed to represent a creature created by spells or abilities within the block, such as the card 'Rivalry' or various green creature generators of that era. It serves a functional role in gameplay, providing a visual placeholder for a 2/2 green Bear creature.

The illustration for this token was created by artist Jesper Ejsing. Known for his atmospheric and fantasy-driven style, Ejsing aimed to portray the creature as a natural, formidable inhabitant of the rugged Tarkir landscape. The design reflects the set's broader thematic focus on clans and wild environments, favoring a realistic, textured rendering that distinguishes it from the more stylized tokens seen in other expansions.
