Provenance

Where it came from

The Bear token was released in 2019 as part of the Throne of Eldraine expansion for Magic: The Gathering. These tokens were designed to represent summoned creatures created by specific cards within the set, such as Ayula’s Influence or Oakhame Adversary, which mechanically generate 2/2 green Bear creature tokens during gameplay.

The artwork was created by illustrator Svetlin Velinov, who has contributed numerous illustrations to the Magic: The Gathering card game. Velinov utilized a painterly style to depict the creature within the whimsical, folklore-inspired aesthetic that defined the Throne of Eldraine set, which drew heavily from classic fairy tales and Arthurian legend.
