Provenance

Where it came from

The Bird token was released in 2024 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion 'Outlaws of Thunder Junction.' This set was designed with a thematic focus on a frontier-fantasy aesthetic, blending traditional Western tropes with the high-fantasy elements inherent to the Multiverse. Tokens in this set were distributed in booster packs to represent creatures generated by various spells and abilities during gameplay.

The visual design of the token reflects the arid, rugged landscape of the Thunder Junction plane. Illustrations for these tokens are commissioned by Wizards of the Coast to maintain stylistic consistency across the set's expansion cycle. These pieces are intended to be functional game aids that enhance the immersive experience of the 'Outlaws' theme, often featuring avian designs that fit the harsh, desert-inspired environment established by the art direction team.
