Provenance

Where it came from

The Bird token was released in 2012 as part of the Return to Ravnica expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It was specifically produced to serve as a physical representation of creatures created by various spells within the set, such as Eyes in the Skies, which allowed players to populate the battlefield with flying bird tokens. This token design was part of Wizards of the Coast's initiative to include dedicated token cards in booster packs to enhance gameplay clarity.

The artwork for this specific token was illustrated by Johannes Voss. His design approach emphasized the avian, ethereal nature of the creature, fitting the aesthetic established for the Selesnya Conclave and the broader Ravnica plane. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its clear utility and the high quality of its digital illustration, quickly becoming a standard tool for tournament and casual play alike.
