Angel

The Angel token, designated as collector number 2 in the Duskmourn: House of Horror Commander set, was introduced in 2024 to support the thematic mechanics of the expansion. This token is designed to represent the summoned entities frequently featured in white-aligned Magic: The Gathering decks, particularly those relying on cards that generate permanent flying creatures. As part of the Duskmourn collection, the token features a distinctive aesthetic tailored to the set's overarching horror-movie-inspired art direction, moving away from the traditional ethereal depictions of angels toward a style that complements the plane’s eerie, shifting architecture.

The artistic direction for these tokens was developed under the supervision of Wizards of the Coast to maintain visual continuity with the main Duskmourn set. By focusing on a modernized, atmospheric interpretation of classic creature types, the illustrators sought to integrate these tokens seamlessly into the gameplay experience while honoring the long history of Magic's creature design. Upon release, the token was well-received by players for its thematic cohesion and its utility in the Commander format, where token-generation cards remain a staple of the social play style.
