Where it came from
Bishop of Wings was released as part of the Foundations Commander set, a collection designed to bridge the gap between new players and long-time fans of Magic: The Gathering. As a reprint originally debuting in the Core Set 2020, this card was crafted to serve as a cornerstone for Angel-themed deck archetypes, emphasizing the game's focus on tribal synergy and life-gain mechanics within the white color identity.
The card features artwork by Wisnu Tan, who captured the ethereal and protective aesthetic characteristic of high-fantasy celestial beings. By rewarding players for both summoning and losing Angels, the design encourages a resilient playstyle. It was well-received by the community for its efficiency in Commander formats, where its ability to mitigate damage while establishing a board presence provides significant tactical value.
