What it does
At the beginning of your upkeep, you lose 1 life and create a 1/1 black Faerie Rogue creature token with flying.
In Lorwyn's brief evenings, the sun pauses at the horizon long enough for a certain species of violet to bloom with the fragrance of mischief.

Where it came from
Bitterblossom was originally printed in the Morningtide expansion of Magic: The Gathering in 2008, designed to evoke the dark, mischievous folklore of the Lorwyn plane. The card’s function, which creates a recurring stream of tokens at the cost of life, reflects the parasitic and relentless nature of the faeries it depicts. It quickly became a hallmark of black-aligned enchantment design, prized for its efficiency and its ability to overwhelm opponents over multiple turns.
The Ultimate Masters version, released in 2018, features updated artwork by Nils Hamm. Hamm’s illustration style emphasizes the eerie, ethereal atmosphere of the faerie court, moving away from the more traditional fantasy aesthetic to capture a somber and haunting quality. This printing was well-received by players and collectors alike, who valued the aesthetic refresh of such a pivotal and mechanically influential card within the game's competitive history.
