Boros Garrison

Boros Garrison was originally introduced in the 2005 Ravnica: City of Guilds expansion, designed to represent the militaristic and disciplined nature of the Boros Legion. The card functions as a bounce land, requiring the player to return a land they control to their hand upon entry, a mechanic that trades tempo for the efficiency of producing two colors of mana. This specific version was released in the 2015 Modern Masters set, a collection curated to bring iconic and strategically valuable cards from Magic: The Gathering’s history into a single, cohesive draft environment.

The artwork for this particular printing was illustrated by John Avon, a prolific artist renowned for his lush, sweeping landscapes throughout the game’s history. For the Garrison, Avon focused on the architectural grandeur of Ravnica, emphasizing the towering, red-and-white stone structures that characterize the Boros district. His interpretation was received warmly by the community, as his ability to capture the sense of scale and fantasy world-building remains a hallmark of the set's aesthetic identity.
