Where it came from
Cabaretti Ascendancy was released as part of the Streets of New Capenna set in 2022, a collection centered on a decadent, Art Deco-inspired metropolis ruled by five demon-led crime families. This specific card represents the Cabaretti, a group of druids and revelers known for hosting lavish parties to mask their control over the city's resources. The card was designed to mechanically reflect the family's philosophy of communal growth and rhythmic indulgence, appearing in the set's promo variants as a showcase for the vibrant, opulent aesthetic defining the plane.
The card's artwork, illustrated by artist Wisnu Tan, emphasizes the ornate visual language of New Capenna by utilizing flowing lines and a festive, gilded color palette. As an enchantment, it was received by players as a specialized tool for synergistic decks, valued for its ability to provide consistent card selection and creature tokens. The design successfully integrates the thematic essence of the Cabaretti—the idea that power is best sustained through collective celebration and constant movement—into the strategic framework of the game.
