Where it came from
Cabaretti Ascendancy was released as part of the Streets of New Capenna set in 2022, a Magic: The Gathering expansion inspired by the art deco aesthetics of the 1920s. This particular card represents the Cabaretti, one of the five crime families dominating the city, known for their influence over the entertainment and nightlife sectors. The design emphasizes the family's hedonistic nature and their focus on creature-based synergy, providing players with card advantage through a top-deck manipulation mechanic.
The promotional variant, identified as 172p, features specific frame treatments associated with the set's release activities. As an enchantment, the card was crafted to reward players who lean into the 'go-wide' strategy common in the Naya color identity of red, green, and white. While the broader Streets of New Capenna set was met with interest for its unique noir-inspired visual direction, this card remains a niche utility piece for Commander and casual deck builders who utilize token-generating archetypes.
