Where it came from
Capsize was originally printed as a common in the Tempest expansion in 1997, featuring art by Donato Giancola. It became a hallmark of control decks due to its buyback mechanic, which allowed players to return the spell to their hand for reuse, effectively locking opponents out of the game when combined with sufficient mana.
The Friday Night Magic promotional version, released in 2003, is distinguished by its unique foil treatment and the inclusion of the FNM logo. These cards were distributed as participation or placement rewards at local game stores to encourage organized play, making them a staple for players looking to upgrade their competitive decks with a more aesthetic, premium finish.
