Caves of Koilos is a foundational land card in Magic: The Gathering, first appearing in the 2003 Apocalypse expansion as part of the Pain Land cycle. These lands were designed to offer players flexibility in mana production, requiring the sacrifice of one life point to generate colored mana. The card represents a pivotal location in the lore of the Dominaria plane, specifically the cavernous tunnels where the Phyrexians established their base of operations during the Invasion. Jim Nelson, a long-time illustrator for the game, provided the art for the original iteration, capturing the dark and alien atmosphere of the site.

The Commander 2021 printing, featuring the collector number 283, serves as a recurring reprint of this utility staple.
