Where it came from
Cecil, Dark Knight // Cecil, Redeemed Paladin (91s) was released as a promotional card for the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game. These cards were distributed through organized play events and tournament support, serving as a specialized variant intended to showcase iconic characters from the franchise's history. The dual-faced design reflects the central narrative arc of the protagonist from Final Fantasy IV, depicting his evolution from a conflicted Dark Knight into a virtuous Paladin.
The card features illustrative work characteristic of the game's high-fantasy aesthetic, which draws heavily from the long-standing visual legacy of the Final Fantasy series. By utilizing dual-sided mechanics, the design directly translates the character's internal transformation into gameplay, allowing players to flip the card as part of its effect. It was well received by the community for its thematic resonance and its utility in decks centered around the IV expansion archetypes.
