Darkness — Whenever Cecil deals damage, you lose that much life. Then if your life total is less than or equal to half your starting life total, untap Cecil and transform it.

Where it came from
This double-faced card, numbered 445 in the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game Opus series, represents the central protagonist of Final Fantasy IV. Cecil Harvey is depicted in both his initial form as a Dark Knight and his transformed state as a Paladin, a character arc that serves as the narrative anchor for the 1991 role-playing game. The card was designed to reflect this duality, visually anchoring the player's journey through the game's core themes of redemption and moral evolution.
The art and design were developed under the supervision of Square Enix to honor Yoshitaka Amano’s original concept art for the title. By utilizing the double-faced format, the card creators aimed to mirror the character's mid-game transition on Mount Ordeals. Within the competitive community, the card is recognized for its thematic accuracy and is frequently highlighted by collectors for its role in preserving the legacy of the early era of Final Fantasy character design.
