Where it came from
Cecil Harvey, the protagonist of Final Fantasy IV, appears in this card as part of the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game (FFTCG), which was developed by Square Enix and released to the international market in 2016. The card utilizes character design art that reflects Cecil's iconic transition from a Dark Knight to a Paladin, a central theme of his narrative arc in the 1991 video game. The design emphasizes this duality, showcasing the shift in his moral alignment and equipment as he sheds his dark armor to embrace his role as a champion of light.
The artwork chosen for this card typically draws upon Yoshitaka Amano’s original conceptual illustrations or established high-fidelity character models from updated releases of the game. These visual choices are intended to resonate with long-time fans of the series, grounding the card in the nostalgic aesthetic of the early 1990s while fitting into the structured, strategic gameplay of the modern card game. Upon its release, the card was received as a versatile tool for deck-builders, valued for its ability to represent the character's signature transformative journey.
