What it does
Until end of turn, any time you could activate a mana ability, you may pay 1 life. If you do, add colorless mana.
To some mages, the meaning of life is less important than how much is left.

Where it came from
Channel was originally printed in the 1987 Alpha set for Magic: The Gathering, designed by Richard Garfield. As one of the most powerful cards in the game's history, it allows a player to convert life points into mana, enabling explosive, game-ending plays in a single turn. Its design embodies the early, experimental phase of the game where high-impact spells were common before the introduction of comprehensive balance testing.
The version from Iconic Masters, released in 2017, features updated artwork by Volkan Baga. This set was specifically curated to reprint powerful and sought-after cards from throughout the game's history, providing a new visual identity for legacy cards while maintaining their original utility. The updated art aims to capture the chaotic energy of the spell, moving away from the minimalist aesthetic of the 1990s to a more refined, illustrative style.
