Chaos Warp

Chaos Warp was originally introduced in the 2011 Commander product as a unique red utility spell that allowed players to tuck any permanent into a deck in exchange for a random replacement from the top card. The ability was designed to give red decks a rare form of non-creature removal, leaning into the color's chaotic identity by trading a known threat for an unknown variable. Because of its effectiveness and versatility in multiplayer formats, it became a staple of the format and has been reprinted across several subsequent Commander sets, including the 2019 iteration.

The 2019 printing features artwork by Trevor Claxton, who captures the essence of the card’s unpredictable effect through a vibrant, swirling depiction of reality destabilizing. Claxton's approach emphasizes the visceral, messy nature of the spell, moving away from traditional magical aesthetics toward a more kinetic and volatile visual language.
