Chaos Warp

Chaos Warp was originally introduced in the 2011 Commander product line, designed to provide red decks with a rare, flavorful form of permanent removal. The card functions as a chaotic gamble, allowing a player to shuffle an opponent's permanent back into their library in exchange for revealing the top card of that library, which may result in the opponent receiving a new permanent of any type. This design encapsulates the identity of the color red in Magic: The Gathering, favoring high-variance, high-impact effects over the controlled destruction found in white or black.

The artwork, illustrated by Trevor Claxton, depicts the essence of unstable magical energy manifesting as a localized rift. Claxton's work on this piece sought to capture the sudden, disruptive nature of the spell, using a vibrant color palette to suggest a reality-bending event. As a highly functional staple in the Commander format, the card has been reprinted numerous times, including its inclusion on 'The List'—a curated selection of cards that appear in Set Boosters—which keeps the card accessible to players while maintaining its status as a quintessential piece of red utility.
