Chatterfang, Squirrel General // Chatterfang, Squirrel General

Chatterfang, Squirrel General was originally introduced in the 2021 set Modern Horizons 2, designed specifically for the Magic: The Gathering Commander format. This card quickly became a fan favorite for its unique ability to weaponize squirrel tokens, a long-running inside joke and niche tribal theme within the game. The Art Series version, collector number 67, was released alongside the main set as a collectible print, intended to showcase the detailed illustrations created for the game's expansive lore.

The artwork for this card was illustrated by seasoned fantasy artist Ivan Dedov. In designing Chatterfang, the goal was to capture the character's dual nature as a tactical, regal leader and a chaotic, forest-dwelling creature. By focusing on intricate fur textures and the character's commanding posture, Dedov successfully translated the whimsical concept of a squirrel general into a visually compelling piece that resonated with the community's desire for more squirrel-themed content in the game's official canon.
