Provenance

Where it came from

The Contortionist token was released in 2022 as part of the Unfinity expansion for Magic: The Gathering, a set designed to blend the game's mechanics with the whimsical, retro-futuristic aesthetic of a cosmic carnival. Unlike traditional expansion cards, these tokens were created to support specific mechanics introduced in the set, allowing players to represent unique creature states on the battlefield during games.

The design was illustrated by artist Anna Christenson, who leaned into the surrealist, vibrant color palettes that defined the Unfinity visual identity. By utilizing a stylized, imaginative rendering of a contortionist, the card serves both as a functional gameplay utility and a piece of collectible art that captures the lighthearted, performative theme of the attraction-filled Unfinity world.
