Where it came from
The Treasure token, numbered 12 in the Unfinity expansion, represents a specific departure from traditional Magic: The Gathering card design. Released in 2022, the Unfinity set explored a science-fiction amusement park aesthetic, moving away from the standard high-fantasy tropes typically associated with the game. These tokens were crafted to serve as functional game pieces while leaning into the vibrant, retro-futuristic art style that defines the set's unique visual identity.
The artwork for this token reflects the set's overarching theme of space-age whimsy, designed to stand out on the tabletop during play. By incorporating the specific visual language of Unfinity—often characterized by saturated colors and whimsical, space-themed iconography—the design team sought to immerse players in the carnival atmosphere of the set. Upon its release, the token was well-received by players for its thematic cohesion and its role in distinguishing the Unfinity play experience from core Magic sets.
