Where it came from
The Convergence of Dominion card was released in 2022 as part of the Warhammer 40,000 Commander set for Magic: The Gathering. This collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Games Workshop integrated the lore and aesthetic of the grimdark 41st millennium into the trading card game's mechanics, specifically highlighting the Necron dynasty's technological dominance. It was designed to represent a Pylon, a structure essential to the Necron goal of reinforcing reality against the chaotic influence of the Warp.
The artwork, illustrated by Games Workshop’s internal team, captures the cold, metallic, and monolithic aesthetic characteristic of the Necron race. It emphasizes the structural, imposing nature of the units found in the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop game. Upon release, the card was well-received by fans of both games for how effectively it translated the faction's thematic focus on board control and artifact synergy into the Commander format.
