Where it came from
The Convergence of Dominion card was released in 2022 as part of the Warhammer 40,000 Commander set for Magic: The Gathering. This collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Games Workshop was designed to integrate the grimdark lore of the Warhammer 40,000 universe into the tabletop card game, with this specific card representing the monolithic architectural pylons used by the Necron faction to stabilize reality.
The art was created by illustrator Valera Lutfullina, who captured the imposing and eldritch aesthetic characteristic of Necron technology. The design team focused on translating the tabletop game's strategic control elements into a mechanical card effect, resulting in a card that rewards players for board presence and tactical positioning. It was received as a versatile staple for artifact-themed decks, appreciated for both its thematic accuracy and its functional utility in multi-player formats.
