Where it came from
Conversion was originally released in the Urza's Saga expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 1998, designed by the team at Wizards of the Coast to lean into the complex, enchantment-heavy mechanics of the era. The 30th Anniversary Edition, released in 2022, serves as a commemorative reprint of iconic cards from the game’s history, featuring the classic card frame and the original artwork by Jeff Miracola.
Jeff Miracola's illustration captures the transformative nature of the card's effect, utilizing a distinctive fantasy style that defined much of the aesthetic during the late 1990s. While the 30th Anniversary Edition was produced as a non-tournament-legal collector's set, it is highly regarded by enthusiasts for its faithful preservation of the vintage card designs and the nostalgic quality of the original art direction.
