Provenance

Where it came from

The Dragon token from the Dragons of Tarkir set was released in March 2015 as part of the Magic: The Gathering block set in the plane of Tarkir. These tokens were designed to represent the 6/6 red Dragon creature with flying that could be summoned by various spells and abilities within the set, most notably the card Dragon Fodder or the mechanics surrounding the dragon-worshipping clans.

The artwork for this token was illustrated by Adam Paquette. Paquette, a frequent contributor to the game, aimed to capture the predatory and majestic aesthetic of the Tarkir dragons, which are characterized by their jagged, armored appearance. The design reflects the visual language of the set, emphasizing a lean, aggressive silhouette that fits the high-fantasy martial arts theme prevalent throughout the expansion.
