Dragon

The Dragon token, cataloged as W2 in the Mythic Edition Tokens set, was released by Wizards of the Coast as part of the Guilds of Ravnica Mythic Edition promotion in 2018. These tokens were designed as premium, high-quality accompaniments to the special boxed sets, which featured a curated selection of Planeswalker cards with alternate, masterwork-style artwork. The inclusion of these tokens served to elevate the unboxing experience for collectors, providing a tactile, visually distinct version of the game's standard tokens that matched the aesthetic of the premium set.

The artistic direction for these tokens prioritized a more refined, illustrative style consistent with the 'Masterpiece' sensibilities prevalent in Magic: The Gathering at the time. By utilizing high-gloss finishes and distinct borders, the design sought to bridge the gap between functional game pieces and collectible art objects. Within the player community, these tokens were received as desirable utility items that offered a sophisticated alternative to the mass-produced tokens found in standard booster packs.
