First strike
I tell you, there was so many arrows flying about you couldn't hardly see the sun. So I says to young Angus, "Well, at least now we're fighting in the shade!"

Where it came from
The Elvish Archers card from the 1997 Pro Tour Collector Set was released as part of a commemorative boxed set designed to celebrate the inaugural Pro Tour season. This set featured exact replicas of the decks piloted by the top eight finishers of the 1996 Pro Tour New York, allowing players to experience the high-level competitive landscape of early Magic: The Gathering. The card itself utilizes the iconic original illustration by Anson Maddocks, which first appeared in the Alpha core set, capturing the classic aesthetic of the game's formative years.
While the card depicts the same fantasy art as earlier printings, the Pro Tour Collector Set versions are distinct due to their gold-bordered reverse sides and the specific 'Pro Tour' stamp present on the face. These sets were intended as a bridge for fans who wanted to play with professional-caliber decks without the prohibitive costs of acquiring the original tournament-played cards. Within the context of Magic history, these cards are valued by collectors today as a time capsule of the early competitive meta and a significant artifact from the dawn of organized play.
