Where it came from
Etali, Primal Storm was introduced in the 2018 expansion Rivals of Ixalan as a high-impact legendary creature. The set drew heavily from themes of exploration, Mesoamerican mythology, and the age of discovery, positioning Etali as a colossal, mythic elder dinosaur that serves as a centerpiece for red-aligned combat strategies.
The card was illustrated by Victor Adame Minguez, who depicted the elder dinosaur with a sense of immense scale and predatory intensity. As a promotional version marked with the star symbol and the set's expansion icon, this specific iteration was distributed through Wizards of the Coast organized play events, becoming a favorite among commander players for its chaotic and explosive ability to cast spells from the top of libraries.
