Evolution Sage

Evolution Sage was introduced as part of the Phyrexia: All Will Be One Commander set, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2023. This card serves as a thematic continuation of the Proliferate mechanic, a signature gameplay element tied to the flavor of the Phyrexian faction as they seek to perfect and spread their influence across the multiverse. The set focuses on the high-stakes conflict between the Mirran resistance and the Phyrexians, with this specific inclusion highlighting the biological adaptation inherent in Phyrexian designs.

The card features artwork by artist Campbell White, who captures the grotesque and biomechanical aesthetic central to the Phyrexian visual identity. White's depiction emphasizes the visceral nature of the creature, aligning it with the set's narrative of rapid evolution and invasive growth. Upon its release, the card was received favorably by players who utilize +1/+1 counter and poison counter strategies in the Commander format, where its ability to trigger multiple times per turn provides significant mechanical synergy.
