Provenance

Where it came from

The Experimental card is part of the front card cycle for the Jumpstart 2022 set, which was designed to introduce a unique, self-contained play experience for Magic: The Gathering. Released by Wizards of the Coast, this set features thematic packets that players shuffle together to create a deck instantly, with the front card serving as a thematic signifier and deck identifier for each packet.

The design of the card leans into the chaotic and unpredictable nature of the Izzet League, a faction known for mad science and impulsive spellcasting. The illustration, created by artist Igor Kieryluk, captures this volatile energy through vibrant, electrifying visuals. Within the community, these front cards are appreciated both for their role in facilitating the Jumpstart format and for their distinct, artistic representations of the diverse themes included in the set.
