Provenance

Where it came from

The Eye of Vecna was released in 2021 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, which marked the first time the game featured a crossover with Dungeons & Dragons. This specific promo card, numbered 243p, was issued as a special variant to highlight the artifact's storied history in tabletop gaming lore, where the Eye is an infamous, powerful, and dangerous relic associated with the archlich Vecna.

The artwork for this version was commissioned to emphasize the macabre nature of the artifact, blending the aesthetic sensibilities of modern Magic card design with the classic high-fantasy imagery of the Dungeons & Dragons source material. It was received by the player base as both a functional artifact for deck building and a collectible tribute to one of the most recognizable items in fantasy roleplaying history.
