Provenance

Where it came from

Family's Favor was released in 2022 as part of the Streets of New Capenna Commander set, a collection themed around the art deco aesthetics and organized crime syndicates of a plane inspired by 1920s noir. Designed by Wizards of the Coast as a tactical support card, it reflects the set's focus on combat-centric mechanics and the political maneuvering inherent in multiplayer Commander games.

The card's illustration was handled by artist Greg Staples, who utilized a moody, stylized approach to capture the atmospheric tension of New Capenna. His work focuses on conveying the high-stakes negotiations and sudden betrayals common to the city's power struggles, aligning with the card's function of granting buffs while encouraging board interaction.
