Provenance

Where it came from

Fauna Shaman was originally released in the 2010 Magic: The Gathering set Magic 2011. The card was designed as a thematic successor to the iconic Survival of the Fittest, providing players with a repeatable method to search their library for creature cards in exchange for discarding others. This mechanical niche made it an immediate staple in green-aligned strategies, particularly those focused on graveyard utility and toolbox-style deck construction.

The specific version numbered 346 appears in The Brothers' War as a retro-frame artifact-themed reprint. Illustrating a shaman connected to the primal forces of nature, the artwork seeks to ground the character in the rugged, ancient aesthetic associated with the setting's lore. Its inclusion in this set was part of a broader initiative to bring classic, highly-regarded utility creatures back to the modern game, where it remains a respected presence for its consistent ability to manipulate deck composition.
