Where it came from
Fauna Shaman was originally released in the 2010 Magic: The Gathering set Rise of the Eldrazi. The card design centers on a creature with the ability to tutor for other creatures by discarding cards, reflecting a theme of druidic communion with nature. As a core tool for graveyard-focused strategies and toolbox decks, it became a staple in the Modern and Legacy formats for its consistent ability to filter through a library.
This specific iteration, numbered 41, is a Secret Lair Drop Series promotional printing. Secret Lair cards are known for their distinct, artistic departures from standard set aesthetics, often featuring stylized, non-traditional illustrations that prioritize thematic interpretation over the game's canonical visual identity. This version of the Shaman was received as a sought-after collectible, favored by players and fans who appreciate alternative art treatments that elevate functional game components into curated display pieces.
