Feathered Friends

The Feathered Friends card is a front card from the Magic: The Gathering Jumpstart release, designed to introduce players to the themes of a specific deck. Released in 2020, Jumpstart was created as a self-contained, randomized play experience intended to lower the barrier to entry for new players by allowing them to combine two themed packs to form a complete deck. The aesthetic focus of the Feathered Friends set centers on avian-themed creature cards, utilizing colorful, whimsical art styles that distinguish it from the more traditional or grim fantasy illustrations found in standard sets.

The card was produced by Wizards of the Coast to act as a visual identifier for the Feathered Friends deck archetype. These cards serve a utilitarian purpose in the game's design, providing quick context for the deck's mechanics and synergies without requiring the player to memorize extensive sets. The design team focused on clear, thematic imagery to ensure that even novice players could grasp the deck's bird-tribal strategy at a glance, and it has been generally received as a helpful tool for the casual and limited play environments for which Jumpstart was built.
