Where it came from
The 'Wizards' front card is a specialized component of the Jumpstart set, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2020. This set was designed to facilitate a unique, randomized draft experience where players combine two distinct 20-card themes to create a ready-to-play deck. The front card serves as a thematic identifier, tucked into the top of the pack to inform players which of the many possible archetypes they have received.
The design of these cards features evocative, high-fantasy illustrations intended to capture the essence of classic Magic: The Gathering creature types. For the Wizards theme, the art emphasizes the scholarly and magical nature of the archetype, utilizing a clean, distinct layout that prioritizes clarity for the Jumpstart format's fast-paced, pick-up-and-play philosophy. The set was generally well-received by the community for its accessibility and ability to bridge the gap between casual kitchen-table play and structured drafting.
