Where it came from
Fiery Temper was originally printed in the Torment expansion in 2002 before being reprinted in the 2016 set Shadows over Innistrad. As a red instant spell, it is iconic for its madness mechanic, which allows players to cast the card for a reduced cost if it is discarded from their hand. This interaction became a cornerstone for various aggressive graveyard-focused strategies throughout the game's history.
The art for the Shadows over Innistrad printing was illustrated by Johannes Voss. Voss focused on capturing the chaotic, volatile essence of the spell, utilizing vibrant flames and dynamic linework to emphasize the destructive nature of the magic. The piece was well-received by players for its thematic alignment with the gothic horror atmosphere of the Innistrad plane and its functional utility in competitive deck building.
