Fiery Temper

Fiery Temper was released in the Torment expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game in February 2002. Designed as a red instant, the card features the madness mechanic, which allows players to cast the spell for a reduced cost if it is discarded from their hand. This mechanic was a core innovation of the set, which focused heavily on graveyard interactions and color imbalance, reflecting a darker, more chaotic tone in the game's lore.

The card’s illustration was created by artist Heather Hudson, who provided a vivid depiction of elemental fury fitting the card's name. It was received as a highly efficient burn spell, quickly becoming a staple in red-based aggressive and control decks alike due to its versatility and ability to bypass the traditional resource cost when paired with discard effects. Its design cemented it as a perennial favorite in competitive formats, leading to multiple reprints in subsequent sets.
