Where it came from
Fiery Temper was originally released in the Torment expansion of Magic: The Gathering in 2002. Designed as a common red instant, it features a madness mechanic that allows players to cast it for a reduced cost if they discard it, reflecting the chaotic and volatile nature of the set's graveyard-focused themes. The card quickly became a staple in various formats due to its versatility as both efficient removal and a direct damage spell.
The Ultimate Masters version, released in 2018, features updated artwork by Volkan Baga. Baga, a frequent contributor to the game's aesthetic, utilized the reprint to provide a modern, high-fantasy interpretation of the spell's pyrotechnic effects. This release was part of a premium set intended to celebrate the game's history, and the card was well-received by players for its balance of nostalgia and utility in limited and constructed environments.
