Food

The Food token, numbered 18 in the Modern Horizons 2 token set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in June 2021 as part of a direct-to-Modern expansion. These tokens were designed to represent the Food mechanic, which was first introduced in the Throne of Eldraine set, allowing players to sacrifice the artifact to gain life. This specific release provided a fresh visual identity for the mechanic, catering to players who needed physical markers for the game state during matches involving cards that generate Food.

The artwork for this token was created by Aaron Miller, who focused on a lush, appetizing aesthetic intended to evoke the magical nature of the items. The design features a stylized spread of sustenance, aligning with the high-fantasy, artisanal theme prevalent throughout the Modern Horizons 2 set. Upon its release, the token was well-received by the player base for its clean, readable iconography and the high-quality print finish that has become standard for modern supplementary Magic: The Gathering products.
