Where it came from
Force of Vigor was released in 2019 as part of the Modern Horizons set, a unique expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game designed specifically for the Modern format. Its creation sought to introduce powerful, high-utility cards into the game by bypassing the restrictions of Standard-legal sets. As a member of the 'Force' cycle, the card was engineered to provide players with a free spell option, allowing them to destroy artifacts and enchantments at instant speed without paying a mana cost, provided they exile a green card from their hand.
The card features illustration by Wisnu Tan, who captured the raw, elemental essence of nature reclaiming constructed structures. The design was intended to balance the aggressive, fast-paced nature of the Modern format by offering a necessary safety valve against oppressive artifact and enchantment-based strategies. Since its debut, it has been widely received by the competitive community as a staple sideboard card, praised for its efficiency and the strategic depth it adds to green-aligned decks.
