Where it came from
Force of Vigor was originally introduced in the 2019 expansion Modern Horizons as an efficient tool for artifact and enchantment removal, designed to balance competitive play by allowing players to exile cards from their hand as an alternative to paying its mana cost. The Secret Lair Drop version, numbered 2304, recontextualizes the card through the lens of specialized artistic collaborations, a series started by Wizards of the Coast to offer collectors unique, stylized versions of popular game pieces that often diverge significantly from standard set aesthetics.
This specific iteration features artwork by the renowned artist Fiona Staples, known for her influential work on the comic series Saga. Staples applied her distinct, expressive character-focused illustration style to the card, moving away from traditional fantasy tropes to emphasize a more modern, illustrative flair. Upon its release, this variant was well-received by the Magic: The Gathering community, serving as a popular inclusion for players seeking to elevate the visual identity of their decks with high-profile guest art.
