Where it came from
Fury was released in 2021 as part of the Modern Horizons 2 expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Designed as part of a cycle of five mythic rare elementals, the card was created to provide powerful, interactive tools for the Modern format. Its design features the 'evoke' mechanic, allowing players to cast the creature for a lower mana cost if they are willing to sacrifice it immediately, a hallmark of its strategic utility.
The artwork for Fury was created by illustrator Johann Bodin, who depicted the elemental as a fierce, flame-wreathed embodiment of aggression. Upon release, the card quickly became a centerpiece of the Modern metagame due to its ability to instantly impact the board state, leading to extensive discussion within the community regarding its power level and influence on competitive play.
